Experiment 3 - Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Food Dyes

    Step 1 - Dye Separation

      Dye Separation:
      In this step, the dye mixture is poured into the column for separation. Once in the column, water is added and the dyes begin to move down the column. The blue dye is more strongly attracted to the particles in the column and moves more slowly, while the red dye is more strongly attracted to the water and thus moves more quickly through the column. This difference in speeds allows the dyes to be separated for further analysis.
